Enjoy an amazing cork farm tour close to Évora
Cork production in Alentejo, Portugal, is a significant industry, as the region is one of the world’s major cork-producing areas.
Alentejo is known for its vast expanses of cork oak forests, covering approximately one-third of Portugal’s cork oak stands. These trees are the source of cork, with the outer bark harvested periodically in a sustainable manner.
Cork harvesting in Alentejo often follows traditional methods that have been passed down through generations. The outer bark of the cork oak, known as the cork cambium layer, is carefully stripped from the tree without harming its inner layers. This process is usually done by skilled workers known as “corticeiros.”
Our farm is a traditional farm that produces cork in a family environment.
